Once upon a time ...

Exchange defeated VFW 6-5 to win the second round of the Moose League. Kirkpatrick homered and doubled. Webster had two hits. Exchange then took the Moose title with a 3-1 win over VFW. Amadeo Carta had two hits and all three RBIs.

Civitans used three hits by Budrick to defeat EIS 3-1 to win the second round of the O'Rourke League.

In the city series, NAPA shutout Didato's 8-0. Brian Hunter pitched a one hitter and struck out 14. John Kelly had two doubles and Rick Fillion two singles for NAPA.

In the semifinal, NAPA shutout Exchange 2-0. John Kelly struck out 11. Kelly had two hits. Dave Schloss drove in both runs.

Civitans defeated Westfield Fire 13-3 to move into the final. Bob Delaney and Mark Talamona each had three hits for the winners. Tony Gaskins had two doubles. Micale was the winning pitcher.

In the championship game it was Civitans 6 NAPA 5. Bobby Delaney was the winning pitcher. Hal Guy pitched for NAPA. Guy had a two run homer in the game played at Romegialli Field.

NAPA under Dick Dooley finished 19-2.

District Nine Tournament
In a playdown game Pat Kidney used the two hit pitching of Joey Ciccarello to shutout East Haddam-Moodus 3-0. He had seven strikeouts. Phil Belniak took care of the offense. He had a two run homer and an RBI single.

The Spencer League All Stars defeated Pat Kidney 7-0 for their first ever District Nine win. Brian Hunter hurled a two hitter to pick up the win. John Kelly had three hits including a home run. Hunter had two hits and a homer. Hal Guy had a hit and scored three runs. Joe Pieta had a hit and Paul Brown an RBI.

Seb Curcuillio hit a three run homer in the fifth inning to carry Moose to a 5-3 win over Portland. Dave Lenz drove in the other two Moose runs. John Pizzi was the winning pitcher.

Westfield rallied from an 8-1 deficit and defeated the Bernie O' Rourke All Stars 20-10. Westfield had four hits from Martin and three from DiMauro. They had two hits each from Church, Passinisi and Carl Fortuna. Craig Drenzek and Doug Budryk each had two O'Rourke hits.

Guilford pushed a run across in the bottom of the sixth to eliminate Spencer 3-2. John Kelly losing pitcher. Hal Guy had three hits and Bobby Bruzik two.

Seb Curcuillo and John Pizzi both hit two home runs to powe Moose to an 11-7 win over Westfield. Pizzi homered in the first and fifth. Curcuillio homered in the fifth and sixth. John Gecewicz was the winning pitcher with relief from Bruce Ellam. Mark Martin homered for Westfield in the sixth. Martin had two hits as did Burgess and Church. Moose had three hits from Curcuillio and two hits each from Greg Borent, McMahon, Pizzi and Gecewicz.

The Moose All Stars earned their way into the District Nine championship game with a 5-1 victory over Cromwell at Hubbard Park. Moose combined the pitching of John Pizzi and the timely power hitting of Joe Lombardo for the win. Pizzi hurled a four hitter. He walked four and fanned eight. Lombardo led off the fifth with a double and scored the game winning run when driven in by David Lenz. In the sixth, Lombardo capped the scoring with a two run homer. Sarkesian of Cromwell pitched a no hitter for the first four innings. Larry Seidl had two hits for Cromwell. Jamie Bacon scored the Cromwell run in the first.

John Jowaiszas pitched a two hit, five strikeout game to lead Madison to an 8-0 win over Moose at Hubbard Park and the District Nine championship. Calvin Jackson and Greq Borent had the Moose hits. John Gecewicz pitched into the sixth and following a two run homer by Steve Fiskio was replaced by Jerry Winzer. Jeff Goyette had four hits and Fiskio two for Madison.

Playing at home, Madison was defeated in the State Tournament by the Pop Smith of New Haven All Stars 9-0. New Haven had a three run homer in the first from Lorenzc Vincent. In the second Francis Green had a solo blast. Steve Fiskio gave up six hits and was losing pitcher.
