Once upon a time ...

Met Life defeated Concord Steel 10-4 to claim the 1977 Spencer League title. Winning pitcher Charles Hickey had a home run and a double. Carl Erlacher had two hits. Steve Grubb led Concord with two hits.

Rotary used the two hit 14 strikeout pitching of Shawn Donovan to beat the Lions 8-2 to take the Bernie O'Rourke title.

Met Life won the opening round game 6-4 over Kiwanis. Charles Hickey was the winning pitcher and also homered. Dave Garofali had two hits. Sal Lombardo was the Kiwanis pitcher. Lombardo, Danny White, and Keith Thigpen all had two hits for Kiwanis.

In the second round Met Life defeated Catholic War Veterans 6-3 and the Elks beat Rotary 5-1. Met Life used the pitching of Robert Scandura for the win Billy Rule struck out 12 for CWV. Scandura, Hickey, and Peter Fallon each had two hits for Met Life. Rule had two run homer for CWV. The Elks used homeruns by Andre Fitzpatrick and John Tucci for their win. Fitzpatrick hurled a three hitter. All three hits were by Peter Onorati.

At Snow School, the Elks rallied to defeat Met Life 8-7 to claim the city championship. Andre Fitzpatrick went four for four including a home run. Curtis Belin went three for four. Rich Zawisa had a two hit day including a three run homer. John Tucci was the winning pitcher. Carl Erlacher had three hits for Met Life. Charles Hickey also had three hits. He had two home runs - one a three run blast.

In the playdown game Westfield used the combined two hit pitching of Billy Rule and Peter Rixon to defeat CDE 9-7. Tom Jepson led the winners with three hits including a home run. Peter Rixon had two hits including a home run. Mike Cartelli, Frank Shefosky, and Billy Rule each had two hits for the winners. Rule struck out seven and walked seven.

Shaun Donovan pitched a three hitter and struck out 13 as the Bernie O'Rourke All Stars blanked East Haddam-Moodus 5-0. Walter Jackson had two hits for the winners.

The Spencer All Stars unleashed a 14 hit attack for an easy 8-1 win over Middlefield. Charles Hickey, Reg Ward, Bobby Scandura, Nick Sergi, and Joey St. Jean each had two hits.

Moose used the no hit pitching of Bobby Russo to defeat Killingworth 5-1. Russo fanned eight, Russo had the key hit - a bases loaded triple in the fifth inning. Tutti Lombardo and Paul Radziewicz had two hits apiece for Moose.

Rich Zawisa and Bruce Micale each homered to lift Pat Kidney over Westfield 8-5. Otis Jackson had three hits and Allan Anderson and John Shenker each stroked two for the winners. Tomrny Dyer and Tom Jepson each had two hits for Westfield.

Jim Daniels hit a two run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give the Bernie O'Rourke All Stars a 10-9 win over the Moose All Stars. Moose had three hits from Paul Radziewicz and two each from Thigpen, Watson, and White. O'Rourke had three hits from Stoane and two each from Dunn and Manemeit.

The Guilford All Stars hit three home runs to account for six of their home tallies and a 7-2 win over the Spencer All Stars. Dom Jimerson was the losing pitcher. Nick Sergi had two hits including a home run.

Guilford rallied from a 5-0 deficiet to defeat the Bernie O'Rourke All Stars 8-6. Joe Misenti hit a grandslam for O'Rourke. Shaun Donovan was the losing pitcher.

Guilford captured their second consecutive District Nine championship as they bested Pat Kidney 6-2 at Hubbard Park. Winning pitcher Grant Berger was helped by home runs from Keith Benton and Mike Palmieri. Andre Fitzpatrick led Pat Kidney with two hits. The other hits were from Rich Zawisa, Otis Jackson, and John Shenker.
