Middletown Little League History

Once upon a time ...

Kiwanis returned to the City Championship Series and this time were victorious. Their opponent, the Elks, stretched the series to three games despite managing only one hit over the three games - one hit in 21 total innings.

Game One was a pitching duel at Hubbard Park between the Elks Danny Zimmerman and Derrick Schultz of Kiwanis. The Elks won a nine inning thriller 3-2. Zimmerman allowed 5 hits walking striking out 14 and walking one. Schultz allowed no hits and struck out 19 but walked 11. Joey Carta was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to force in a run.

Game Two was at Snow School and Kiwanis won 6-0 to even the series. Pat Merrill went the distance for Kiwanis pitching a one-hitter - the only hit the Elks got in the series. Billy Hamilton of the Elks only allowed two hits.

In the third and deciding game at Hubbard Park, the Kiwanis were carried by Derrick Schultz's second no-hitter of the series and won 7-0 to claim the City Championship.

The first Little League World Series night game is played. Long Beach Little League of Long Beach, California is named World Series Champion following the disqualification of Zamboanga City Little League of Zamboanga, Philippines.
