2007 Blue Dragons Varsity Soccer Team

Update from Coach Smernoff:

The varsity girls soccer team currently is 2-5-0 on the season, but has shown positive signs many times during the season. We have defeated East Catholic in a dramatic 4-3 double overtime win on the season and also were victorious against St. Paul in a 2-1 road victory. The team also showed great heart and determination in games against Farmington, Rocky Hill, RHAM, NW Catholic, and Plainville. The junior varsity soccer team is currently 1-4-2 on the season. The team is currently on a 3 game unbeaten streak with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Plainville in addition to a tie against East Catholic 1-1 and 0-0 tie againt NW Catholic. The program is led by senior captains Kalila Hoggard and Jenna Rossi. Both have played for 4 seasons and are true leaders both on and off the field. We also are receiving great contributions from seniors Madison Vestergaard, Erica Rivera, Chelsea Martin, Ashleigh Drew, and Katie Ahlers. Both the varsity and junior varsity are receiving quality play from our junior class. This group consists of Jessica Zingle, Whitney Holder, Marissa Passinisi, Olivia Carey, Olivia Delmastro, Katie Chase, Marisa Musumeci, Sarah Nuzzo, and Leeann Morrison. Our sophomore class is providing much-needed leadership to our junior varsity team and also adding key depth to the varsity team as well. The group is led by Ali Daganais, Jenna D'Amico, Carly Slossberg, Alex Barraughter and Emma Hadley. Sophomore JV captains Brooke Michanczyk and Nyanda Maille provide strong leadership. Our freshmen group has not only contributed to the junior varsity, but IS ALSO THE FIRST FULL FRESHMEN GIRLS TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL!!!! The group includes Katherine Mosca, Ashley Stokes, Christina Harvey, Abigail Murray, Jazmine Moore, Maria Ortiz, Moriah Mandile, Maariyah Lombardo, Mariah Arabas, Jacke Coady, Jackie Ellingson, Marisa Rodo, Trisha Gould, Larissa Paskiewicz, and Leyna Donaldson. The team is coached at the varsity level by Rob Smernoff in my 6th year with the varsity team while we are pleased to welcoem Erin McCann in her first full year with the junior varsity program. We also welcome alumnus Ryan Jacob who coaches are developmental/freshmen team which is the first of it's kinds at MHS. We encourage everyone to come out for a few exciting games in October. We play top ranked and often nationally-ranked Farmington High School on Tuesday, October 9th at 3:45pm at Pat Kidney. Also, we are excited to announce that Thursday, October 11th we will have our traditional Senior Night at Palmer Field at 7pm. We will take this opportunity to honor our 7 exceptional seniors prior to playing St. Paul. Finally, we conclude our seaosn with a "halloween treat" playing perennial power Berlin HS at 3:45pm at Pat Kidney. Please come out and support your Blue Dragons.
