On Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, the Middletown Guns 2 defended their title by mopping up their High School rivals with three impressive wins. In game 1, the Guns defeated the Lyman Hall Trojans 13-0. In game 2 they defeated the West Haven Westies 9-0, and in the Championship game they defeated the Shoreline Cubs 10-0.
Against the Trojans in game 1 the Guns scored 2 in the first, 9 in the second and 2 more in the third to jump out to a 13-0 lead. The Guns had 14 hits, all in the first three innings. The game ended after four and a half innings due to the mercy rule. Kate Sykora had 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Mal Dorflinger added 2 hits and 4 RBI's. Kyra Poudrier, Emily Walsh, and Brooke Franco also collected 2 hits each. Kelly Feodorov pitched the first 2 innings and Sammy Yuknat pitched the final 3 innings and they held the Trojans to just 1 hit.
In the second game the Guns scored 2 in the second, 5 in the fourth, and 2 more in the fifth. Game 2 ended after five and a half due to time. The Guns had 12 more hits in this contest. 9 out of the 10 players collected a hit. Sykora, Walsh, and Kat Mosca had 2 each. Alysha Pieta scored 3 runs and Michelle Brown had 2 RBI's. Feodorov pitched the first 4 innings and Yuknat tossed the final 2. The two pitchers scattered 7 hits to record their second shut-out of the day.
The Championship game featured more of the same. 2 runs in the first, 6 in the second and 2 in the fourth and another four and a half inning mercy rule game. 8 more hits gave the Guns a total of 34 hits on the day. The big blow in this game was a bases loaded triple by Mal Dorflinger who lined a deep shot into the left centerfield gap that one hopped off the 230 foot fence. Sykora doubled and tripled and had 7 hits on the day. Chelsea Pantano reached base every time up and collected an RBI. Feodorov, who pitched with an ailing back all day, pitched the first 2.1 innings and Yuknat pitched the final 2.2. The two pitchers held the Cubs to 4 hits and completed a scoreless day in the circle.
To say the Middletown Guns 2 peaked at the right time would be the understatement of the year.
The Guns 2 ended their season with a 14-2-1 record.
